Qiu Shaoyun was a member of the Chinese Volunteer Army who fought in the Korean War (1950-53). In 1952, Qiu and his unit mates, camouflaged with foliage, were approaching the enemy when bombs were dropped on them. Although he caught on the fire, Qiu refused to move and give away the unit’s position; he perished in the flames and in 1953, was made a Hero First Class.
