Li Wenzhong served as the leader of the Fourth Platoon of the People’s Liberation Army, which saved a number of Red Guards from drowning. However, he died in the process and to celebrate his sacrifice, the Party made him a national model in 1967. Li Congquan and Chen Diankui were Li Wenzhong's comrades in arms and the three of them were mentioned together as glorious role models in a 1967 speech given by Premier Zhou Enlai.
